New Scotland coach Ian McGeechan was in at the start, writing: "There is no substitute for our own magazine. It whets the appetite with the thoughts of recording the action, from league games to international matches, as well as sharing ideas from around the world, both on and off the field. "I look forward to seeing our own rugby highlighted in a magazine that will provide a forum for all things associated with rugby, but essentially and especially Scottish."As well as Geech, John Jeffrey, Bill McLaren, Alan Wells and Ronnie Browne contributed to that first edition, and all have remained loyal readers of and contributors to Scottish Rugby. Grand Slam winner and famed Kilted Kiwi Sean Lineen was also a part of that initial magazine, with Alan Campbell the editor, and in the last decade, with Kevin Ferrie (now The Herald's chief rugby writer) and now David Ferguson in the ed's chair, Sean has taken the magazine to new heights. Sean and Kevin agreed in the summer to accept a bid for the magazine's title from First Press Publishing, the magazine division of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, and now, with the experienced back-up from an established magazine producer, we look forward to taking Scottish Rugby even higher.
